Systems Software Engineer, Silicon Bringup
Recruiter Fit Breakdown & Candid Summary
OpenAI is seeking a Systems Software Engineer to drive the silicon bringup and validation strategy for custom AI hardware.
The ideal candidate brings deep systems programming experience in low-level environments and a proven track record of bringing up complex hardware-software systems.
You will collaborate heavily across silicon, firmware, electrical, and workload teams to isolate issues and validate performance targets.
Candidates who lack low-level debugging experience or strong fundamentals in computer architecture and hardware-software integration should not apply.
Role Responsibilities
- 1Contribute to the end-to-end software bringup and validation strategy for new silicon and first-party systems.
- 2Define software-driven test coverage across compute, memory, interconnect, I/O, and their system-level interactions.
- 3Build diagnostics, test automation, telemetry, and regression infrastructure that accelerate first-silicon learning and issue isolation.
- 4Lead bringup from initial silicon arrival through board and system integration, docking, runtime enablement, and model execution.
- 5Design stress tests that characterize reliability, performance, and stability across workloads and operating conditions.
- 6Debug complex hardware-software failures, drive root-cause analysis, and coordinate fixes across cross-functional teams.
